In diesem Referat erfährst du einiges über die größten, legendärsten Musiker unserer Menschheitsgeschichte. Verschiedene Bands sowie Solokünstler werden (in englischer Sprache) beschrieben sowie die bekanntesten Hits aufgelistet.

Legends of our music history

For thousands of years, music has had a great and very special significance for people. Music is today and has always been a fundamental part of our lives. Throughout the history of mankind, there have been numerous people who, through their love of music and composition, have shaped our music and our entire posterity in every respect. In the following presentation some of these special, legendary musicians are enumerated and briefly described. The focus is on the music of the twentieth century and therefore especially on the music styles Jazz and Blues, Rock’N’Roll, Rock, Pop, Metal and others.


1. Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley is not only one of the most popular singers in music history, but also one of the most famous and greatest personalities of all. You can hardly find anyone who doesn’t at least know the name of the legendary King of Pop. After all, he is still a great representative of various musical styles such as rock, pop, blues, country and even gospel.
In fact, Elvis took our music a long way. Although he, which is less well known, had not written any of his songs himself, he impressed with his comforting voice and especially with his legendary appearances.

Biography: In 1935 Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Mississippi, his twin brother Jesse was born dead. His career began at 19 and he became more and more famous, gave many concerts and released numerous singles and albums, until he died in 1977 in Tennessee probably because of drug consumption.

Famous songs: Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock, Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, In The Ghetto, Burning Love, Wooden Heart


2. The Beatles

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr revolutionized pop culture in every conceivable way. The four cheeky mushroom heads from Liverpool with their charm and humor were especially well-received by the girls of that time. With their music they still influence the music industry today. From the beginning they served as inspiration for numerous following and also contemporary musicians (e.g. the Rolling Stones).

Band history: In 1956 John and Paul got to know each other — a close friendship developed, and also a band, which finally developed into the four-member Beatles. From 1960 to 1970 the band celebrated numerous successes, until it disbanded due to differences of opinion.

Famous Songs: Love Me Do, Help!, All You Need Is Love, Come Together, Here Comes The Sun, Please Please Me, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Let It Be, A Hard Day’s Night


3. Queen

The name Freddie Mercury should also be familiar to everyone. Together with Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon he belonged to the legendary rock band Queen. Even today, more than twenty years later, the famous and popular Queen songs can still be heard everywhere.

Band history: Freddie Mercury, actually Farrokh Bulsara, came from Tanzania to England and celebrated huge successes with his band. Queen was especially popular for the wonderful live performances, which were only possible with Freddie’s grandiose voice. Unfortunately the legend died of AIDS in 1991.

4. David Bowie

David Bowie - The man with the lightning in his face should be familiar to everyone. He is also one of those special people who revolutionized music.
He was always characterized by a rather bizarre and therefore all the more interesting manner. Bowie also liked to invent new personalities, which he described in his songs, such as Ziggy Stardust and Major Tom.
With his songs as well as his personality he shaped posterity in every respect. For example, the name of the German band “Wir sind Helden” refers to Bowie’s song “Heroes”. The German song “Major Tom” by Peter Schilling is also inspired by Bowie’s hit “Space Oddity”.

Biography: Bowie was born in London in 1947. He started his career early, which lasted for forty years until his death in 2016.

5. Frank Sinatra

Frank Sinatra was not only an outstanding musician, but also a sought-after actor and entertainer (also an Oscar winner). He is one of the most important representatives of the pop music of that time, the swing. Thanks to his pleasant voice, which sounds “Christmassy” to many, he still enchants thousands of music lovers today, years after his death.

Biography: Francis Albert Sinatra was born in New Jersey in 1915. Early on his love for music was awakened, which finally led to his great success. He had several children, including Nancy Sinatra, who later became a famous singer herself. Sinatra ended his career in 1971 and unfortunately died in the year 1998 for health reasons.

6. The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones are one of the few music groups that still perform together after all this time. The lead singer Mick Jagger and the guitarist Keith Richards have been part of the Rolling Stones for 57 years.
In the past and today, the music group was one of the most famous, successful and influential bands in music history.

Band history: The band starts with the youth Jagger and Richards, who befriend each other and finally found the band. Over the years, members have been replaced, and today the band is still on tour, impressing the whole world with Jagger’s characteristic voice and rhythmic songs.
