Queen

 Queen is a British Rock band and is considered one of the most popular and successful music groups of all time. The band has hit many records with their albums: For example, the album “Queen: Greatest Hits” is the most sold album in the UK until today. There’s no doubt - Queen is legendary. Their songs are unique and many of them are known by everybody. So I bet every one of you knows at least 5 Queen songs. Some of their most popular songs are for example the following: We Are The Champions, We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody, I Want To Break Free, Another One Bites The Dust, Radio Gaga and Under Pressure. 

 The Members
 Queen consisted of the same four musicians for twenty years: Freddie Mercury, which was and is definitely the best-known member of the band, was the lead singer of the band. Brian May played the acoustic and electric guitar. Roger Taylor was the drummer of the group and John Deacon played the bass. What I personally really like is the fact that every one of the four members was involved in song writing. Every member has written at least one of the songs I just told you. The Story Freddie Mercury was born as “Farrokh Bulsara” in Zanzibar, but then he moved to England and changed his name. He was interested in a local music group, called “Smile”, which was formed by Brian May and Roger Taylor. Finally, Freddie joined the band and they became “Queen”. With their first songs, for example “Killer Queen”, they hit the Charts and got popular. 
At the beginning of their career, Queen published the song “Bohemian Rhapsody”, written by Freddie, which was a six minutes long Rock and Opera -mix up-song. The production of the song was a big challenge for Queen. The band had to get experimenting; they tried to produce a legendary, timeless song - and they did. Still today the song is listened and loved by millions of people. Life performances Queen was very popular especially for their live performances. Thanks to Freddie’s strong voice and his general talent for vocal improvising, Queen is considered the best band in live concerts. Despite the fact that Freddie actually was a bit introverted, on stage he was … Very typical for him are the unusual costumes, as you can see here: Sometimes he dressed as a king, sometimes he dressed his typical yellow jacket or other strange costumes.
One of the most legendary life performance is the 20 minutes long Live-Aid concert in Wembley in 1985. 


 The Legend Freddie Mercury
 Freddie Mercury is known as the “legend of music”, the “king of Queen”. Now I’ll try to give you a short description of Freddie. I don’t think it has sense if I’ll focus on his detailed biography. I’ll just tell you how he was - as a person, as a musicians, as an artist. If you think Freddie was a normal, plain person, think again. Actually, Freddie was really curious. For example, Freddie had a really, really strong preference for cats. In fact, he adored them. Freddie did everything for them - he even dedicated a whole album to his cats. When he was on tour with Queen, he often called home only to speak with his cats. 
Altogether he had nearly ten cats in his mansion. The strange thing is: Freddie insisted on that every cat should get its own room. Some of his cats are Tom, Jerry, Oscar, Romeo and Delilah (The existing queen song “Delilah” is dedicated to his cat). Freddie was a popular person among other famous personalities. So he was a good friend of Princess Diana - Sometimes, he helped her to dress and transform into man that they could go in a gay club without getting recognized. 
Freddie cooperated with many other musicians such as David Bowie and Michael Jackson. The cooperation of Jackson and Mercury didn’t go well for a long time - They had to quit the records. The reason is quite strange and funny: They had an argument because of a Lama. Michael Jackson had a Lama called Louie, which he always took to the record studios. Freddie was irritated of that and wanted to stop the records. Furthermore, Freddie was homosexual. Before he realized that, he had a girlfriend, Mary Austin. So he left her, but they remained really good friends his whole life. The last few years of his life, he lived with his partner Jim Hutton and his cats. 
In the year 1992, Freddie Mercury published a statement, in which he told his fans about his illness: He got AIDS. Only 24 hours after that, Freddie died because of a lung inflammation. The whole world was shocked and sick at heart. Freddie made music until his death. He wanted to record as much as possible, so the others could edit and finish it after his death. So after Freddie had passed away, the others released an album called “Made In Heaven” in honor to Freddie.
